Last week, federal government agreed to implement some aspects of the 2009 agreement reached with ASUU.

After the meeting today, is likely the strike will be called off.

Nigerian Army

This is to inform the general public especially those you applied for Nigerian Army Direct Short Service Combatant DSSC Course 19/2011 and were at the Direct Short Service Commission Selection Board 2011, that the list of successful candidates for training have been released and is available online.

The successful candidates names are available on Nigerian Army official website. The names were also published on Punch Nigeria Newspaper on 13th January, 2012.

The successful candidates are to report for officer cadet training at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering Makurdi, Benue State on 10 February, 2012.

The link to check if your name is among the successful candidates, is available below. But before you check for your name, first read and ensure you have all the materials listed below. Failure to report with the materials, am afraid you might be punished for that. An it can be costly!!

     a. Original credentials including photo cards.

     b. Two pairs of white (unmarked) vests/navy blue shorts.

     c. A pair of white canvas/trainers.

     d. Two white bed sheets/pillow cases.

     e. One blanket (grey or army green colour).

     f. A set of cutlery.

     g. National dress, suit and casual wears.

2. Successful candidates who fail to report on 10 February, 2012 may forfeit their chances.

3. Candidates placed on the reserve list are NOT to report until contacted.

In a special bulletin by the university,  new and old students were mandated to pay in full, fees, ranging between N193,750 and N348,750; N25,000 and N33,250 respectively before the close of work on the new deadline.

The management, however, warned “new students, who fail to comply on or before the new dealine will automatically forfeit their admission, while old students, who fail to register may lose their studentship.”

On the extension, Public Relations Officer, Lagos State University Student Union, LASUSU,Mr Azeez Olateju, said the extension was due to a dialogue between the student union leadership and management.
Azeez advised new and old students to pay “as soon as possible.”

It was gathered that most old students had complied with the new directive, while a few of the freshers had complied, owing to the high side of their new fees.

Reacting, Pelumi, a fresher of Mass Communication, said she made full payment of N238, 750, before she could be given her pin for registration.

…as Jakande urges Fashola to reduce  fees

Former Lagos State Governor, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, yesterday,  urged Governor Babatunde Fashola to review the hike in fees at Lagos State University, in the interest of peace.

Jakande, who made the appeal in an interview with newsmen, in Lagos, said the sudden increase was not encouraging, especially for a state that had been in the forefront of mass literacy campaign.

The government had in September hiked tuition fees for the institution from N25,000 to N350,000.

Jakande said, “I am pleading with the governor to review the new fees, so that our heritage would not be destroyed.”

Jakande, whose administration established the institution in 1983, said the high fees would affect the children of the poor.

He said: “Before now, poor people have been struggling to see their children through school, the increase in fees will affect their children.”

According to WAEC Head of the National Office, Dr. Iyi Uwadiae “404,863 candidates, comprising  225,023 male and 179,840 female candidates sat for the exams.

Of this number, 394,337 candidates, representing 97.4 per cent had their results fully processed, while 10,526 candidates, representing 2.6 per cent  had few subjects still being processed due to various errors and omissions mostly traceable to the candidates”

Uwadiae said some of these errors and omissions occurred during online registration for the examination and some committed during the examination.

The results of 39,066 candidates, representing 9.65 per cent of the candidates were withheld for alleged involvement in examination malpractice.
